BELGIAN-POLISH FORUM ON CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
START SMALL, END UP GREAT!
CSR - ANOTHER WAY TO INCREASE YOUR COMPETITIVENESS
Place: Atrium Centrum, Golden Floor, al. Jana Paw³a II 27, Warsaw
Date: 19.11.2010, 9:30 - 14:00
Organiser: Belgian Business Chamber

On the 19th of November the Belgian Business Chamber organized the Belgian-Polish Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility entitled “Start Small, end up Great! CSR - another way to increase you competitiveness”. The conference took place in Warsaw, from 9:30 to 14:00. The event was attended by 80 participants.
During this Forum Belgian and Polish speakers shared their experience about the origins and development of socially responsible activities in their respective countries. They talked about the role and the advantages of Corporate Social Responsibility for entrepreneurs and their enterprises. Mr. Iwona Kuraszko from Kozminski University focused on the three levels of CSR development in Poland while Mr. Peter Schellinck from Schellter Strategy Consults familiarized us with the involvement of Belgian SME in CSR. Moreover, the representatives of BBC member companies presented different examples of CSR activities: Mrs. Olga Domañska, Chairman of the Board of Warta and Kredyt Bank Foundation talked about the employee volunteer program, Mrs. Agnieszka Rzenno, Vice-Director of BNP Paribas Fortis Foundation concentrated on the role of social media for the benefit of local communities, Mrs. Agnieszka Juszczyk, HR Associate Director at UCB Pharma Sp. z o. o. showed us some examples of good practices focused on patients while Mr. Tomasz Morawski, Country Sales Manager at Unibind (SME) presented the “green actions” of his company.
The presentations were followed by a panel discussion and interactive voting. All guests and speakers had a possibility to express their opinion on four issues by answering to the questions. Already the first question proved the high awareness of the public - 91% of responding people recognized the sentence “CSR activities are associated with high expenses” as false. A similar result appeared after the second question: “CSR is a concept directed mainly to big corporations” - only 19% of people responded positively. The next two questions showed smaller unanimity. 33% of responding guests against 67% claimed that “Business must be profitable, so only the financial benefits may be an argument for the involvement in CSR activities”. The biggest controversy aroused in the last question “Companies undertake CSR activities to improve their image”. 42% of audience found this sentence true. The results of the voting were discussed by the panelist and extremely active guests.
At the end of the event there was a raffle - Mr. Rados³aw Juraszek from Civil Society Development Foundation (FRSO) drew three business cards. The winners received prizes prepared by alumnus of the Foundation in the framework of “Successful Social Economy Enterprise” project.
The whole conference was moderated by Mrs. Justyna Januszewska, Partnership Programme Manager at the Responsible Business Forum (FOB), CSR expert.
The media patrons of the Forum were Brief magazine, CR Navigator and Proto portal, while partners included FOB, CSRinfo and FRSO.
This meeting has been an excellent opportunity to learn more about CSR, its advantages and its importance in the present business society. Its aim was also to be an opportunity to exchange ideas, to share knowledge and see how to apply CSR in your company.
We would like to thank all the sponsors of the event: Kredyt Bank, UCB, Ghelamco, BNP Paribas Fortis and CFE.
